Real Scenes: Detroit – Documentary about the Birthplace of Techno
I could not ignore techno music, well electronic music for that matter. I got into Hip hop because of scratching, I loved the sound that it created. So when electronic music started to grow, I gravitated towards it naturally.
Anything that sounded spacey, robotic and futuristic I was all over and loving it.
Groups like "Lords of acid", "Kraftwerk" and "the porno kings" got me all pumped up.
I knew Detroit was doing some crazy things, but my sources were late night much music, Energy 108 and a local DJ named Matlok who later became a DJ for a hip hop group I was in called "Double ROC CHAOS"
I still dig electronic music, I tend to like abstract an ambient stuff like "Tycho" or "Boards of Canada".
What really killed it for me was the lifestyle the music has associated itself with, I dislike the whole club scene. I appreciate the music, but what goes along with it... I can pass on it easy.
This documentary is pretty interesting... check it out if you are like me and want to learn about the origins of certain music.
